Psalms SOAP: You can get guidance from the One in charge

Day 12 of the Psalms in 60 Days

Today’s Reading: Psalms 31-32

Scripture: Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;

I will counsel you and watch over you.

Observation: He will give me the direction I need.

Application: So often I feel lost in a sea of to-do’s and want-to-do’s.

There is so much I want to do and so much I feel that I have to do. All too often the wants get done before the have-to’s or I think too many of the want-to-do’s are have-to’s.

God can help me to clear all that up– but that will only happen if I seek His guidance and then listen.

Today I made a choice to skip study group and instead use the time to journal and pray in my church’s prayer center. I knew that if I just went home the laundry, email, dishes and such would beckon. And I knew that if I sat in study group I would just be wondering when I could schedule an hour or so to just pray. So I just did it.

Did I come home a new person with incredible focus? No.

But I do feel like it was time well spent. I presented my requests to God, wrote about them and tried my best to  listen. And I think I heard some direction on prioritizing. And I bet I’ll hear more direction as the day and week go by.

He promises to help me and guide me. The maker of our universe has told me He would help me…  and you, too.

But if we don’t take the time to offer up our requests and ask for this help which is ours, then how are we going to get it? If I don’t sit still and listen to Him, then how do I expect to learn from the ultimate mentor?

We can have direct communication with the One who knows all and promises to help. I need to work harder at building THAT relationship than any other. And I would bet after that, everything else truly will fall into place.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for this verse today. Thank you for telling me that YOU will guide me. I need you. I’m overwhelmed. I want to do more than I should. Help me, Lord. guide me, Lord. And help me to listen and follow your guidance. For there is no better mentor than you. Thank you for offering your guidance to me and all of your children. Help us all to take you up on that offer.

Tomorrow’s Reading: Psalms 33-34

  3. very nice message and reminder to me. i learned during our last B90 days that the more I read the bible, the more focus I am in reading the Bible…the more I pray. I also learned that it is when I pray that I accomplished so much. I need to bring back that kind of devotion I had.
