SOAP: Discipline will bring joy

Scripture: Proverbs 29:17

Correct your son, and he will give you rest; yes, he will give delight to your soul.

Observation: Appropriate disciplining of your child will bring joy.

Application: Today in my reading of The Power of a Praying Wife, we are to be praying for our husbands in their role as fathers.

My husband is a very involved, loving father and for that I am quite thankful.

This verse stuck out to me today because I know we both do not enjoy the discipline part of parenting… although we do recognize its value and do carry it out. Discipline comes from the term disciple, so it means modeling as well as reining in bad behavior. But it’s the correction that can get tedious.

I find this verse encouraging in that role.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for selecting such a loving, caring, involved father as my husband. He is a wonderful father and having him as my partner makes my job as a parent much better than it might be had I not been blessed with such a wonderful teammate. Thank you for this verse which is so encouraging during the more uncomfortable parts of parenting. Please guide both of us we determine and carry out the best ways to discipline our children through the years and through the circumstances. Give us both strength to model behavior which is honoring to you and to teach behavior which is honoring of you to our children.

Thank you, Lord, for being the ultimate Father and showing us how it is done. And thank you for wisdom on parenting such as this which you have given us in the Bible, the ultimate how-to book.
