SOAP: Gaining understanding in perfect time

Scripture: John 13:7

Jesus replied, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand.”

Observation: Jesus is about to wash the feet of his disciples and they are confused as to why he would do that. He is explaining that there are many things that might not make sense at the time, but will make sense at the right time.

Application: So often I wonder what I think I know which will be proven otherwise when Jesus comes again.

And so often I get frustrated because I do not understand everything I read in the Bible and want to know it all now.

If the disciples were walking with Jesus daily, I mean walking side by side and could even see Him with their eyes directly, and they still had questions, I should let my discomfort go and accept the fact that He will reveal to me what I need to know when I need to know it. However, it is up to me to create opportunities to hear His word by reading the Bible and setting aside some listening and praying time. Otherwise, how can I expect Him to talk with me?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for this reassuring reminder that you will share with me what I need to know when I need to know it. Thank you for showing me how to set aside a time for you daily so that I can hear you speaking to me. Please guide me in keeping that time and not letting it be stolen from us by worldly busy-ness.

Please guide those looking for understand to hear you, as well. And continue to reassure us that your message will make sense when you intend for it to.

Thank you, Father.
