SOAP: Kindness to inspire repentance

God morning, sweet friends!

You may have noticed I took a break last week. I was at PineCove’s Crier Creek, a Christian family camp in Columbus, Texas, and opted to unplug as much as possible while there.

The week was filled with great teaching from Craig and Carrie Langemeier for the adults, super fun worship, wonderful conversations, joyful kids and lots of camp-type activities: paddle boarding, water sliding, singing, dancing, trail riding, journaling, crafting and more. I was stepping in for my friend’s husband who was unable to go, so I was not there with my own family, but with another family and I 100% enjoyed hanging out with my friend and her amazing girls. I loved watching them flourish in the freedom of camp. I am so grateful that my friend invited me to join her, that my husband was cool with it and that the camp allowed it to happen, as well. The week was a salve to my soul.

I hope you had a wonderful week, as well.

I’m glad to be back sharing my SOAP with you.

I wrapped up the She Reads Truth survey of the Old Testament last week. Today we begin the New Testament survey. You can follow along online with the reading on She Reads Truth. It is not a full reading of the New Testament. Instead it is a survey, with verses from each book and verses from other book that back that passage shared each day. I’ll be using that as a basis of my SOAP for the next few weeks.

Ready to see what I heard this morning? Here we go:

Scripture

"...God's kindness is intended to lead you to repentance." Romans 2:4b

Observation

His love and acceptance is to inspire a change in your ways.

Application

His unwavering love and kindness, even when I mess up, DOES make me want to do better. It certainly inspires me– He has such patience with me and my mistakes.

As much as this inspires me to want to do better, I also see how He is modeling good parenting and good relationships here, too. God doesn’t shame me when I screw up. He welcomes me with love. He forgives. He shows me kindness, He makes me WANT to do better.

I should try harder to follow and adopt this with my children.

I don’t want them to act in fear, but to act in love. (And God wants the same for us.)

Prayer

Father God, thank you for your unending love for me and support of me. Help me to live the life YOU have set out for me. I know your path is the right one. Thank you for covering me in grace when I mess up. This really DOES make me want to do better. Help me to follow this example in my own parenting and relationships. I want to lead in kindness and love as you have shown me. With you, I can.

Thank you, Lord.

In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen

  1. I’m going to try to do this SOAP/old testament devotion with you.
I too saw the scripture in Romans 2:4 and so today I am trying to change my ways by focusing on HIS loving kindness.
