SOAP: Putting my husband second on the list

Scripture: Philippians 2:4

Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Observation: Don’t only seek out what you want or need, but also what others want or need.

Application: Today I am reading/ praying through chapter 16 of The Power of a Praying Wife where we are praying for our husband’s priorities. The author, Stormie Omartian, points out right from the start that if we want to pray that we should be number two on our husbands list (behind God), then perhaps first we need to be sure that he is second on our list as well. And that our husbands know that.

She explains that having small children, or a job, or many other things may cause us to spend more time on other areas in our lives, but we can still put our husbands above those things by keeping him top of mind and praying for him often, letting him know we are praying for him and asking him how we can pray for him. She also pointed out that by doing simple things like asking if we can do anything for him each day (and then following through) will keep him in the right spot.

She goes on the explain that if that is too difficult and we find that we don’t have enough time to pray for him or do needed tasks for him that we need to take a better look at our task lists and re-prioritize.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for my husband.

I want to serve you and serve him, and yet so often I allow many other things take precedence.

Please, Lord, guide me in seeing the things that need to be removed from my schedule. Or show me how to cut back on those things and spend more time and efforts on those things which you know are lasting and should be more important.

Guide me in seeking out not only my own interests, but those of my husband, as well.

Show me how to make him feel cherished. And guide me in following through on the path you present to me.
