SOAP: Sometimes I can throw seed, sometimes fertile soil

Scripture: Luke 8: 8

Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.”

When he said this, he called out, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

Observation: When the seed fell on the good soil, good things happened and the Word of God blossomed.

Application: I need to do what I can to cultivate good soil around me. Sometimes it might be my seed-throwing that makes a difference and sometimes it might be me who helps with the soil. Either way, my efforts can help to build more and stronger and disciples of Jesus Christ. Sometimes it may be as though I am casting out seeds and I will see the results more quickly than when I am helping to fertilize the soil, which is equally important.

Prayer: Lord, guide me in sharing your Word in the ways that you would have me to do so.

Help me to lay strong foundations in some and be the tipping point that opens others’ eyes in others. Use me in the way you know I can help the best.

And please guide me in tending to my own garden: my children and family and myself. Help me to keep us growing toward you and guide me in removing the weeds in our lives that need to go.

Thank you Lord, for growing a strong foundation in me and for sending the seeds of your Word to me so that I could come to know you, love you, follow you, point others to you and be saved by you.
