SOAP: Stop and call on Him

Scripture: Nehemiah 2: 4-5 (partial)

4The king said to me, “What is it you want?”

Then I prayed to the God of heaven, 5and I answered the king…

Observation: Nehemiah was asked a question that was an important one. Before even answering, he prayed to God. My guess is that it was a quick, silent prayer.

Application: Earlier in Nehemiah, he prayed to God a lengthy, detailed and worshipful prayer. And when he was in the moment, about to ask the king for something, he paused, prayed, and then continued.

I am taking from this that God wants us to call on Him in many ways at many times. I think He wants us to pray long, detailed prayers at times and he also wants us to call out in the moment of our need with quick prayers, too. I think he just wants us to pause and then recognize and call on the greatest power there is: His!

Prayer: Lord, thank you for wanting to hear from me. And thank you for this reminder that I should pray to you always… sometimes with lengthy prayers in preparation and sometimes with quick prayers in the moment.

Thank you for wanting to listen and for reminding me to pause, pray and keep my focus where it should be (on you) at all times.

PS: If you are joining me in daily prayer for your husband, today we are praying about his focus.
