SOAP: The Holy Spirit knows what we need… even when we don’t

Scripture: Romans 8:26

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.

Observation: The Holy Spirit always knows what we need, even when we don’t. The Holy Spirit is always in communication with God on our behalf.

Application: Even when we don’t know what we really need, the Holy Spirit does. Sometimes I don’t know what I need, yet it is reassuring to know that the Creator of the world knows exactly what I need… and will give it to me.

Rather than planning and asking for every little detail so often, perhaps I need to rely on God and just ask Him to give me what I need. He knows!

Interestingly, I just did that this morning. First I started to pray, asking for specific selfish things for myself today. I feel like I have a lot on my plate and I’m also going to be in a social situation later this morning in which I really don’t want to look like an idiot.

As I was praying, though, my heart changed and I began to ask God to use today, and the events of the day, to let me hear and be moved by what he wants me to hear and experience. I asked him to use me in the way He wants.

I am so thankful that the Holy Spirit interceded for me this morning, knowing the prayers I really needed better than I did at first.

Prayer: Lord, thank you so much the Holy Spirit. What a wonderful, beautiful mystery! Thank you for your master plan and for revealing just what I need to know. Please guide me in becoming more reliant on you and less reliant on my selfish desires. And, please, Lord, guide me today to follow your plan and be used by you. Thank you, Lord.
