SOAP: You need the Spirit to understand the Spirit

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:14

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

Observation: You need the Holy Spirit to understand the Holy Spirit.

Application: I so remember trying to understand all the ins and outs, mysteries and questions about Christ, faith and the Holy Spirit before I wanted to truly turn my life over to the Father. (Of course I still struggle and want to be in charge daily, but I’m talking about when I finally gave in and made the big jump to become a true believer in Christ and the Trinity.

I couldn’t understand how everything in the Bible all worked together and how all those miracles really happened. And I didn’t want to believe in something I couldn’t fully explain.

But then I decided to just commit to reading his Word and not debate it. I would just read and read and read and hope to learn what I needed.

And soon, all of the question I had just slipped away and became less important. And that’s when many of those questions actually became answered.

Once I let the Holy Spirit take center stage and not my doubts, then things started to make sense and fall into place.

Do I understand every detail? No.

Do I love the Lord my God with all my heart, all my soul and all my MIND?

Yes, now do. But that couldn’t have happened had I not surrendered myself to the Holy Spirit first.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for revealing yourself to me throughout my life and being patient and persistent with me in my confusion.

Please, Lord, I ask that you guide those who are lost and puzzled by the Holy Spirit because the Spirit does not live within them. Reveal yourself to them in undeniable ways. Guide them to a daily intake of your Word. Guide them to invite the Spirit in, and receive the love and understanding that results.

And, please, guide those who do know you to continue to draw closer and have more questions answered, yet keep questioning in all the right places so they continue to seek your knowledge and understanding in your word. I pray this for myself, too.

Please, share your peace and your love and your mysteries.

And, Lord, use me wherever you see fit in revealing You. I am yours.
