Speak boldly in faith

Scripture: Acts 4:29

Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness.

Observation: Here Jesus’ believers are praying to God, asking them to guide them in being bold in their faith. The Sadducees were not happy with all that Peter and John had been doing, stirring up dissent and teaching about Jesus’ resurrection. Peter and John had been put in jail, but then had to be released because the miracles performed in Jesus’ name could not be denied.

After John and Peter’s release, they gathered with the believers. This verse was part of their prayer.

Application: I need to ask God’s guidance in speaking his word boldly. I am so often held back because I am afraid I’ll say something wrong or I’m afraid I’ll offend someone. Instead I need to ask the Lord for his guidance and then speak boldly. He will give me the words if I just ask. And he will guide my study if I listen to him.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the opportunity to hear and study your word. Please guide me and embolden me so that I’m not held back from proclaiming your name and your sovereignty. I’m letting Satan win when I sit silent. Guide me in speaking up for your truth. Not that you need me to do so, but because I should. And because you are alive in me.
