Watch what you say (Ephesians 4:29)

I don’t know about you, but sometimes I lose my cool. And sometimes when I lose my cool, I do not choose the best words or best tone.

Unfortunately there are moments when the words that come out of my mouth are not the best for building up and, instead, they just might tear down.

Ouch. I HATE it when that happens. Even once is too much. I should control myself… that’s the only thing I CAN control!!

Let’s read it again:

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear.

-Ephesians 4:29

Yep. Those sound like good words to live by, or to strive to live by, at least.

I have already written it out on three notecards to set about the house, with at least one going on my own bathroom mirror.

I want to encourage always– even in the frustrating, irritating, and I-don’t-know-what-to-do moments. I can so this, with HIM.

Prayer:

Father God, please guide me. Help me to calm down when I get pushed too far. Help me to control myself– my actions and words. Please help me to stop any corrupting talk from coming from my mouth. Guide me in only using words, phrases and tones which are good for building up, as is appropriate, so all those who hear my see grace and love. Thank you, Lord, for your help in this. I know that I when I commit my plans to you, they will succeed. Thank you, Lord.

I believe people lose their cool. I’m am one of those people. I try my best not to say words that are not good to say. I go to calm myself and ask God to take over and put positive thoughts into my mind.

  2. This is difficult for me, especially with the children. My left brain knows that because they are children it is even more important for me to follow this. I am learning to respond instead of react… ALL THE TIME. Thank, Amy!
