Weight Watching Wednesday: Drink it, Baby. Drink it!

I know I’ve mentioned before how important it is to drink water, and I’m sure you’ve heard it plenty of times from other sources. But I’m going to say it again: Drink that water!

Good ol’ H20 can make a huge difference in your health… and your weight.

You can’t flush out all the bad stuff without it. And you’ll just make it more difficult to flush out the bad stuff if you drink more bad stuff.

So drink more plain water starting tomorrow (or even tonight).

You don’t like plain water? Give it a real try.

I know. I’m not being my usual forgiving, kind, self here. But I feel strongly about this one. And I’m doing this for your benefit. Really. So here goes the mean part:

Sure, you can flavor it up, but you won’t be getting all the benefits that come from plain water. And any type of flavoring (except for maybe a small squeeze of fresh fruit) adds artificial stuff to your body. Why add more icky stuff? Why not save up that up for the really yummy stuff?

I almost always carry around a plastic sports bottle around with me, (yes, even to church sometimes) filled with water, and sip as I go. I refill it all over the place at water fountains, sinks, and even when we go to fast food restaurants. (And I’m even eliminating waste by using my own cup. Do I get good green girl points?) I’ve even come to carry my own sports bottles to amusement parks and ask the drink stations to fill ‘er up. It’s cool, free and refreshing. (I pack bottles for the kids, too… I may as well start them off right.)

Yes, I drink a soda every now and then. And, no, I’m not telling you to cut them out (although it would be better for your body and your weight, regardless of if you are drinking diet or not). What I am suggesting is that you increase your water intake.

You will see a difference at the scale. And you will see a difference in your skin.

If you don’t like it, give it a try. Set a realistic goal. Fill up one sports bottle and try to drink it before lunchtime. Deny yourself any other drink until the bottle is empty. Try it every morning for a week and see how it goes. Or, if that is easy, refill that bottle after lunch and do it again. No flavoring, just plain water.

I wonder how you’ll feel about the taste after a week. And I wonder how your body will feel, too.

You’ll never know unless you give it a try.

Let me know how it goes.

Does seltzer or club soda count as water?
