On Sunday I’ll be heading to Lodi, California, thanks to Snooth and the Wines of Lodi, California, with 5 other bloggers. We’ll be exploring Lodi and her wines, visiting several wineries and restaurants and also participating with Gregory dal Piaz in the Snooth Virtual Tasting of four Lodi wines on Wednesday evening.
A few Lodi Wine Country Fun Facts:
- Lodi wine country, which is 100 miles east of San Francisco near the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta, south of Sacramento and west of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, has been home to vineyards for more than 150 years and actually thrived during Prohibition, supplying grapes to winemakers across the country.
- In 2005, the region established Lodi Rules, California’s first third-party-certified sustainable wine growing program.
- Zinfandel, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the most common grape varieties grown there, and lately the vineyards have been experimenting successfully with Albariño, Tempranillo, Verdelho, Sangiovese, Viognier, Carignane, and Touriga Nacional.
I’m really looking forward to learning more about Lodi alongside some of my favorite bloggers, Ben of Benito’s Wine Reviews , Bill of Cuvee Corner, Dezel of My Vine Spot, and Nannette of Wine Harlots.
Some of the Lodi wineries we’ll be visiting include:
- Bechtold Vineyard
- Harney Lane Winery
- Mettler Family Vineyards
- Mohr-Fry Ranches
- Wegat Vineyard
- Acquiesce Winery & Vineyards
- LangeTwins Winery
- Kirschenman Vineyard
- Jeremy Wine Co
- Klinker Brick Winery
