A Psalm a Day starts today!

Good morning sweet friends and readers!

Thank you so much for both your patience, flexibility and support.

Initially I had intended to start either the Bible in 90 Days or a cover to cover read through in 180 days last Monday. Unfortunately, I did not keep in touch with you about either and then I switched my own plan altogether but did not share that with you. I regret that.

A few of you left comments or emailed (so kind to hear from you!!) and so, I’m back with the revision and a fresh start.

A revised invitation

Today I invite you to join me in reading one Psalm a day, every day, until we read through all of the Psalms There are 150 Psalms, so this will take us from today through Wednesday, September 21.

Why the Psalms?

I enjoy reading the Psalms as they remind me to slow down, reach out to our Father and then wait, listen, lament, ponder, or rejoice in that waiting. The Psalms remind me just how ‘human’ all the Bible greats are: They made mistakes. The questioned. They wanted to do better. And they continued to reach out to God in full honesty, putting it all out there to Him in conversation.

What could be more inspiring, affirming and beautiful?

How do we do this?

My plan in reading the Psalms this time is to

  1. Enter His gates with thanksgiving and praise. Before I read, I pull put my journal and write a simple good morning note to God, thanking Him for a few things that I’ve observed or enjoyed in my life recently.
  2. Ask for guidance.
  3. Read the day’s selection.
  4. Employ the SOAP method in the next step of my journaling: What scripture stood out to me? What do I observe about it, specifically? How can I apply it to my life? Pray about that.
  5. Copy that scripture into my day planner or on a note to remind me to ponder it more deeply.
  6. Journal and pray about anything else on my mind.

Do you need to follow all of those steps? Nope.

Think of the reading plan as just that… A plan to guide you in reading some of the Bible every day. How you digest it is completely up to you. I’m just super glad we are all reading together!

Ya in for reading one Psalm a day?

Ready? Wanna join me? I hope so! If you let me know that you are in, I’ll be praying for you specifically.

Consider inviting another friend to help hold you accountable, maybe with a quick “I’ve read it! text each day.

Many thanks, again, for your grace and, of course, for joining me.

In Love,

I’m in…sorta. I did start the Bible in 90 Days last week and, as much as I’m sorry you won’t be joining me, I’m grateful you planted that seed. I’m currently doing a Psalms in a Year program with my church, so I’m quite a bit ahead, but once you catch up I’ll join in. Does that make sense? Prayers for all of us as we strive to walk more closely behind Jesus.

  4. I’m in, too! I was hoping to hear from you about your plans were going to be. This sounds perfect and much needed for me!

  5. I’m in Amy! I am thankful for your willingness to lead us through the Psalms. Excited to use the soap method this time.
