SOAP: Nothing done for the Lord is useless

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:58

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and steady, always enthusiastic about the Lord’s work, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

Observation: Persevere in what you do for the Lord, because it has true meaning and always will

Application: How reassuring to know that the work I do for the Lord will always have meaning.

I look back on my life and there are many things I did that had a lot of meaning at the time, but not a whole lot of meaning in the whole scheme of things. I’m not saying all those things are or were completely useless, by any means. Perhaps some had some sort of purpose in building me or others.

But the Lord’s work will always have purpose and meaning… some of which I may not understand now or later. And yet, the purpose will remain. So I should continue to work with enthusiasm, even when I am tired or uninspired. This verse should guide me in setting my priorities and remind me of what is timeless and never worthless: service to our Lord.

Prayer: Oh heavenly Father, thank you for calling on me, one of your many, many children, to serve you. Thank you for calling on all of us individually to serve you in our own unique ways. Help us all to hear your whispers and your prodding, and serve you in the ways you intend.

And thank you for enlisting us on a timeless, everlasting project which has eternal meaning. I don’t have to wonder what this will mean in the future. You already know.

When I am feeling weary and not wanting to serve, please bring this verse to mind so that I will again become enthusiastic, strong and steady. Thank you, Lord.

  1. Great application and so true. I once talked with a gal who said she’d lost her enthusiasm for a ministry and because of that she wanted to quit. Sometimes we mistake God’s voice, and blame our lack of energy/enthusiasm on Him, thinking He is speaking to us, when actually we just need to persevere.

  2. Thank you for this encouraging word. I know that sometimes things that I do seem so trivial or unimportant…..but, I know that in His scheme of things, there is nothing in His work that is unimportant. Thank you for this uplifting message today….

You gave me my smile today…..it’s been a “bad-mood” Monday (even though people probably wouldn’t know it, because I’m always smiling and cheery anyway…hehe)

    Blessings,
    Summer
