A quick ride

This morning I rode with a new group of cyclists and had a fantastic time, once I stopped apologizing for holding everyone back! I think they are typically much faster than I am, but they were all very polite, yet still kept me challenged.

Right at the start my bike was making a strange noise and I realized something must be hitting a spoke. I called to the group and we all stopped. As it turned out, part of my cycle computer had rotated and was hitting the sensor which was on the spoke. I wiggled it a bit and off we went… but then my computer wouldn’t register anything. I wasn’t going to ask everyone to stop again, so I just cycled a long and tried to stay close to the pack. When we stopped at the halfway point (16 miles) I was floored to hear that we had averaged 17.5 miles per hour! Yippee! A personal best!

I played with the computer again and got it positioned correctly and off we went, back through the same route. My average for the 2nd half was 17.3, giving an overall average of 17.4!

The ride itself was fantastic. We went on a few of the roads I cycled Sunday and there were more wildflowers out today. Plus all my livestock buddies (cattle, horses, goats and a few dogs) were milling about.

After the ride, though, my new friends were a bad influence on me. We were talking about fast food and 2 said they planned to drive through Sonic on the way back. I smuggly drove right past the Sonic… but gave in to Arby’s. Aaaarggh!! A roast beef sandwich sounded much better than another banana! Oh well!

Ride stats:

distance: 32 miles

average speed: 17.4 mph

maximum speed: 23.5 mph

average heartrate: 78% of max

maximum heartrate: 92% of max
