Act Justly. Love Mercy. Walk Humbly with God.

Scripture: Micah 6:8

“He has showed you, O Man what is good.

And what does the Lord require of you?

To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”

Observation: He doesn’t really require much of me. Just that I am kind, merciful, and fair, and stay in communion with him, knowing and recognizing that he is sovereign (and I am not).

That last one sounds easy, but how often do I think I am in control? Or want to be in control? Or just want to help things along?

It amazes me that so much of God’s Word can be summed up in such a simple statement. And this statement is echoed throughout the Bible so many times.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul and all your mind.

If you do that, then of course you would be just, merciful and humble, walking with God all the while. Many more scriptures come to mind… humility, mercy, acting justly. It’s all in there. Lots of times.

He doesn’t ask much and He is quite clear. And although He only asks a little of us, He gives so much. And He’ll forgive me every time if I just ask. Wow. Pretty amazing. He’ll never push me away if I truly want communion with Him.

Application: I need to evaluate my actions and heart to honor these simple requirements. Be just. Love mercy. Walk Humbly with God.

Prayer: Dear Lord, You provide so much for me, for all of us, and yet you ask so little in return. Yet I am fallen so I need to be reminded. And you know that.

You are a gracious, loving God and Father. Thank you for that. All you want from me is for me to be nice and recognize your sovereignty and be with you. Wow. And I couldn’t truly do any of those things with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, whom you sent for me.

Thank you for that gift.

Please continue to guide me in being kind and humble- and in finding joy in putting others first, and in truly putting you first.

It is easy to say that you’re on the top of my list, but when I look at how I spend my time, I’m not really putting you there. But I’m getting there. And thank you for loving me as I fall short. And for still encouraging me and giving me so many gifts. Please continue to help me align my goals with those you have set out for me. Thanks for that… and so much more.

You are right. I think we make the Christian walk so much harder than it has to be. Or at least we try to make it sound complex. It’s very very simple: understand what Jesus did for you and love Him utterly.

found you through Missy. and I’ll be back.
