Why the new covenant?

Scripture: I had such a hard time selecting just one verse from the passages I read this morning. Really, you need to read all of Hebrews 8 to get the full understanding, but here’s a snippet:

Hebrews 8:6-8

6But the ministry Jesus has received is as superior to theirs as the covenant of which he is mediator is superior to the old one, and it is founded on better promises.

7For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another.

8 But God found fault with the people and said:

“The time is coming, declares the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.”

Observation: Oh there is so much here. I’m going to try to stick with what I’ve got. And also remember that I am NOT a Bible teacher, I’m just a regular girl trying her best to listen to what God has to share with me… and then I’m sharing it with anyone else who wants to listen or comment.

God truly loves us and wants us to know him. Why else would he make this new covenant? He could have just given up on us and our evil tendencies. But, no, he wants to be with us so he sent his son to overcome death and be our ultimate sacrifice, replacing the need for us to offer our own.

Application: Follow and appreciate this new covenant. And be grateful. And let my life show that.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for not giving up on me, or anyone else. Thank you for this new covenant you made. Guide me in living that I may honor, respect and show appreciation for your love in making this new covenant so I could be in communion with you.
