B 90 Days SOAP: Can you praise the Lord always?

Day 42 of the Bible in 90 Days

Scripture: Psalm 70:4

But may all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you;

may those who love your salvation always say,

“Let God be exalted!”

Observation: May all who worship you and long to be with you always reach out to you in love and praise you.

Application: Sometimes bad things happen to followers of Christ. And that can be very, very hard to take.

This psalm puts into words how I hope I will always feel and how I hope all followers of the one true God feel: Even when times are tough, it is my prayer that all who seek the Lord will still sing the praises of the Lord and find gladness in Him.

Prayer: Lord, as you know, there are many who are suffering right now. And many of those suffering follow you and love you. Please, Lord, guide them in finding joy in you even amidst their struggles. Help those who seek you to still rejoice and be glad in you, praise you and reach out to you through all their pain. Please, Lord, comfort them. Help them to feel your warmth and love around them. And guide them through their struggles.

And please, Lord, for those that don’t know you and are suffering, place one of your followers in their paths and embolden them to speak up for you and share prayers with those who are hurting, so that they, too may feel comfort that can only come from you.

Thank you, Lord, for your unending love and devotion to me, and all your children who seek it.

Please help all of us to extend that love to those around us.

Are you hurting today? Are you able to still rejoice in the Lord through your suffering or is that too hard for you right now?

For those of you who have overcome extreme heartache: Were you able to see God and lean on Him through the pain? Perhaps sharing your story will inspire another who is suffering to lean on God, too.

    Hi Amy,

Praising the Lord in the difficulties of life is hard. However, when I’ve come to the other side you see that God was working all along. Even now I am challenged in the suffering our family is gong through. My husband hasn’t worked steadily for almost 2 and 1/2 years due to the economy and now he is on workers comp which is insufficient to pay our monthly bills. We have exhausted our savings and now face a “short sale” on our home and have relocated to another state. However, these are the times where I feel him the most as in the song by Josh Wilson, “Fall Apart”. I read along with you earlier this year and when I saw you were doing the reading this summer, I hopped on board because I desire for God to speak to me through his word which he has many times.

  4. I think the book of Psalms is our best example of praising through difficulties. I find it so helpful to read during a tough time.

  5. I am sad to say that Iam not always being a a praising christian

    1. I don’t think you are alone in that respect, Tracy.
Speaking up and admitting that is a great step in preparing for the next big challenge and how you will respond. I just prayed that you will lean on Him, and keep up the praising, even when the next storm hits.

  6. 3 years ago I lost so much money from a very bad business decision. Needless to say I was devastated, I lost my savings and got into big debt (to 4 banks!) just to fulfilled my obligations from that failed business.

It’s a good thing I still got my job…. so all my monthly salaries goes to payment of car+house+4 more banks. The problem is – my salary is not enough to cover all those monthly amortization. Know what I did? I given my resignation letter (This is the bravest thing I did given my situation at that time. I just received salary increased 2 months ago. I prayed for 1 week that my boss will not accept my resignation). Told my boss I needed another raised. My boss gave me raised (3x of salary increase 2 months ago) and a promotion!

Now after 3 years, I finally paid all those debts. This month is the last payment.

What I want to share is: God will always give us a way to meet our needs. And as Psalm 30:5b says – Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. Troubles and sufferings are all temporary, morning will always come.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. And, more importantly, I am so glad you clung to Him through the experience. Congratulations on making your way out.

  7. I wouldn’t have gotten through many of the difficulties in life if I didn’t have God to lean back on NO MATTER WHAT. I am so enjoying being in the Psalms!!

  8. Hey Amy – praising the Lord always is a challenge!! I’ve been working through Job on my blog and yesterday we talked about keeping a balance in our view of God – when we go to one extreme or another in our view of Him, it drastically changes how we view pain and difficulty in our lives! If this sounds helpful to anyone, you can find it here: http://www.krististephens.com/2010/02/god-is-big-enough-to-trust.html
