Coming back from 12 days behind…

Is there too much going on in your life right now to fit in your Bible in 90 Days reading each day?

One of our mentors recently sent this note to her group. She had a LOT going on, and a LOT of loss going on, the first time she read with us.

But I’ll let her tell her story…

The first time I read through Bible in 90 Days, I was 12 days behind at one point.

I was still determined to finish in 90.

We (our little church) lost 6 older people during those 90 days, and I was feeling a little discouraged. All were wonderful people who had loved Jesus, so we all knew they were with Him, but still…6 people in 2 months?

Well, the second to last week of March, I finished teaching a women’s study on Tuesday nights at my best friend’s house, and the next week we had a potluck there. We had a wonderful time, and I knew that since I was through with the study, I would be able to catch up on the B90 a little bit at a time the next few days.

I was still a day or two behind by that Friday when I received a call from my best friend’s husband. She had collapsed with a brain aneurysm, and we had to say good-bye to her early that Saturday morning. She was a week away from her 39th birthday.

As I read the next day or two, I caught up, and the day her family took her off life support (she was an organ donor) was the day I finished reading Revelation.

“And he will wipe away every tear…” Oh, the pain and the joy of knowing she was gone from us, but she was with her Lord. She loved Jesus so much, and she was jealous for His glory, passionate about His Word.

I knew that finishing B90 on day 88 (completely caught up) honored my Jesus (I had kept a commitment), but it also paid tribute to her and her love for His Word.

So, just a little encouragement to keep going, even if you’ve fallen way behind.  The Lord will provide time to do it, and he will give you the strength you need!

In Him,

Jana

  1. I needed this today, I am behind too – not even sure how many days. My husband deployed last Sunday and that first week I was in a “funk.” We are finally settling into our new normal and I hope to get caught up ASAP!

  2. Oh thank you so much for this! I am 12 days behind right now. I have my reasons/excuses but none of them are as big as yours. What an encouragement that you could catch up and even finish a couple days early while still going through so much. Thank you!

  3. Awesome encouragement! Thanks for posting this

  4. Oh what heartbreak to experience so much loss but thank you, thank you for sharing your experience. I’m about five days behind right now and as we get ready to move across country it seems like I will never catch up. I think the hardest thing is that I have such a desire to read but it is so hard to get even a few minutes of quiet time. I’m still so grateful for having learned about this though and am hoping to take my children through it with me next time.
