Bible in 90 Days: Day 32 Check-in

If you are participating in the Bible in 90 Days challenge, today you are on Day 32 and should have read through the end of page 384 in the Bible in 90 Days Bible or through 2 Chronicles 23:15.

Today we get to hear from Ted Cooper, Jr., who founded the Bible in 90 Days concept and ministry. I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to meet Ted when I did, and to have read the bible in its entirety thanks to him.

Watching the ministry grow from photocopied notes and one church to a nationwide program has been extremely exciting. A few months ago Td mentioned that he’s like for Bible in 90 Days to go viral. Well, I think we’ve taken it there!

Here are Ted’s thoughts:

Last November, Amy was attending a fundraiser for the Bible in 90 Days ministry when she suggested the idea of blogging through the Bible in 90 days.

My first response was, “Great.” My second was, “Oh no.”

You see, I was thrilled that bloggers would attract a new audience to the process of reading the entire Bible. After all, that is the heart of our ministry.

But I was also concerned. I know that community is a critical element in helping people complete the journey successfully. Could an electronic community replace the fellowship and accountability that have made the program so successful in churches and small groups throughout the country?

We kicked the idea around for a month. All the while Amy became more and more convicted to pursue the initiative. So we said, sure, let’s go for it.

Now, as we enter day 32 of Blogging thru the Bible in 90 Days, I have to say there is a LOT to be encouraged about:

  • A woman who’d left the church long ago began attending again because of her reading
  • A woman who home schools her SEVEN children is not only keeping up with her reading in the midst of the daily onslaught, but is inspiring others to take up their Bibles and read as well
  • Through Amy’s efforts and those of her cohorts, 140 bloggers and their readers are participating in the journey in some fashion
  • Each Monday night from 8-9 PM CST a regular group meets online via a Twitter Party. Everyone is invited to join to ask questions and share experiences. (As an aside, the Twitter Party ends promptly at nine, as a high proportion of attendees appear to have 9 PM appointment with Castle on ABC :) ). (Note to Ted: I think that’s a coincidence. I think everyone is reading!!)
  • So many people are visiting our website for features like Listening While You Read and our weekly online lessons that we had to double the audio bandwidth from our Web provider
  • Hundreds of you have signed up for our B90 Daily Messages to receive encouragement, thoughts to ponder, and suggestions for additional resources.

Ultimately, the success of this initiative lies with how well we are supporting you in taking this journey of a lifetime through God’s Word. So, would you be willing to take a few minutes to complete an anonymous survey, so we’ll know how this journey is impacting you… and how we might help you further? You can take this survey at:

http://survey.constantcontact.com/survey/a07e2p8s4hkg52svpkp/start

In Isaiah 55:11 God makes clear that His Word will not return to Him void, “…but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” Our prayer is that each of you successfully read God’s Word from cover to cover. Given the promise in Isaiah, imagine how this experience can transform your life, and those of the people you touch each and every day.

Please know that our ministry is here to help you at all points on the journey.

Yours in Christ,

Ted

Okay, it’s me again…

Thanks for jumping in on this journey with me! Please do click over and take the survey.. I know that Ted really counts on and uses that data. It’s a short survey so please pop over and click through it.

Because of the nature of our group, we have very little data on who is actually reading with us, so please click over and take the very short survey. And if you are a blogger participating, please mention this post and survey on your blog and encourage your readers who might also be reading to swing by and take the survey, too. Even if you don’t think anyone is reading with you, please mention this just in case.

And, of course, also, let us know how your reading is going via the MckLinky or comments. Can you believe we are 1/3 of the way in? Two months to go!

Please leave a comment or a link to your own post below to let us know where you are in the reading and any observations you would like to share.

Then, please pick two or three other commenters and pray for them by name.

And, of course, don’t forget to join us for our Tweet-Up tonight from 8-9 CST. Just follow me and use the #B90Days hashtag. I’ve been saving the transcripts from our Tweet-Ups the past two weeks. If anyone has any tips on publishing them, I’d love your input. (One is 89 pages in a Word document!!)

Also, I’ve just created a MomsToolbox fan page on Facebook so we’ll have yet another place to discuss our reading. Swing by sometime and leave a comment or reply to someone else’s.

Alright, link up, leave a comment and let us know how you are doing…

  2. Sorry it took me 4 days to ‘check-in’. I am on schedule and even a bit ahead, even if only a smidge.

A few days ago when we were reading about all of the Kings in Israel & Judah, my 10 yr old yelled out, “I wish you would stop saying that. It’s driving me nuts!” He was referring to “but he did what was evil in the sight of the Lord”. He was getting exasperated by these evil men. I paused for a teaching moment to ponder with them about whether God feels that way about the evil things we do. Sheepishly agreeing, we continued. But he never stopped muttering under his breath, “Not again!” or “There she goes again.”(like it’s my fault they were evil…lol). Additionally, there was much rejoicing when I was able to read “and he did what was pleasing in the sight of the Lord.” LOL

  5. Ok… so I am about 5 days behind in my reading and one day behind on checking in! :( Sorry! I am planning to get caught up tonight and tomorrow (during my plane ride to Blissdom!). I have a post about my reading scheduled to go live tomorrow too… Maybe I’ll have time to come back and actually put the link in here for you! Lol

  6. I just realized I didn’t check in yesterday. I was all good on schedule until yesterday. I’m trying to keep up with my local Bible study and do this. Yesterday I spent my B90 time working on my local study, then got some bad/scary news in the evening that is making it even harder to concentrate. I know though that is just more reason to spend time in the Word, so I hope to get caught up tonight.

Today I was folding laundry and thinking and praying about the news I got yesterday. My 4yo son walked in with a grin on his face and said, “Here, Mommy.” I couldn’t imagine what treasure would have put such a grin on his face, then I looked and saw he was handing me my B90 Bible. Even he seems to realize at 4 that reading the Bible is what is most important right now. :-)

  7. I’m on schedule with my reading. Hurray! I’m looking forward to reading Esther soon.

  8. I’m a half-day behind, and have not read yet today. Our weekend has become a 6-day school break (4!!! snow days!), and I struggle when the kids are around to keep my schedule. I still haven’t updated my blog. I need to, as a couple things have been in my mind and heart.

  9. I’m actually a day behind today (tuesday). I have not completed all of mondays’ reading, and I have today’s to do as well. Instead of sitting down at 7 pm for one hour, I’m going to do several smaller reading times throughout the day today.

It is hard to believe we are one-third of the way through, wow!

  10. I am checking in and right on schedule. My goal last week was to get little ahead since we had super busy weekend. That didn’t work out & I missed a day of reading. But I am all caught up. Still really enjoying it.

  11. It’s 10.30 pm here on the west coast and I just realized that I hadn’t checked in today! David (my DH) and I are still with you and still current on our reading! I honestly didn’t think I would still be current this far into the challenge (I never seem to finish reading the Bible in a year, so this seemed like it would be extra hard!), but here I am! Thank you, Lord for helping me to order my days in such a way as to find the time needed to spend with You in Your word! :)

  12. I’m caught up and still going . . . .

  13. I’m one day behind but I will be caught up and hopefully ahead in time for Blissdom :)

I am two days behind but going to try to catch up now! Thanks again Amy you are such a strong encourager :) I am loving this experience and I know God is going to be able to use me much better when I know more of his word!

  16. Made it through January!!! Still up to date!

  17. Hmm, that did not work! I will try again. I am just leaving my blog post link here, because MckLinky gave me a broken link again this week. I’m on track, but I haven’t finished today’s reading and I need to go to bed now, so I will have to catch up on that tomorrow. Loving the journey and very motivated still! Thanks so much!

  18. Just leaving my link to my blog post here as MckLinky made my link a broken one again this week. Pretty much on track still. Today I only read 3 chapters so I have 12 or something to catch up on tomorrow. I am really motivated and so enjoying the journey! So I will catch up! :)

  20. Like some others I too am behind (seems I have been behind way more than being caught up). Although behind, I am LOVING this journey. If I read 2 days worth each day until Friday I will be caught up, but even if I don’t ever catch up and this takes me 100 days instead of 90 that is OK with me. This is the most devoted I have ever been, thank you for the support along the way.
I stumbled on you quite by accident (yeah right, God had a plan!) while looking for something so totally not reading the bible in 90 days – so awesome when that happens
Later this year when I do the 90 days again I hope to keep on schedule the whole time.
I have found that listening while reading had helped enormously in my understanding – but I must do both, read AND listen or I get really distracted. I am blessed to have the NIV on CD so I just transfer several books to my iPod and I am ready to go.
    thanx,
    Melissa

  21. I’m a few days behind due to being out of town for my grandma’s funeral, but I have continued to read every day. For the first time, I feel as if my day is missing something if I don’t have some time in the Word. I plan on being caught up by the end of the week.

  22. I’m about a day behind, but getting caught up.
I posted about it this morning on the blog.

  23. Still here and still reading. Your SOAP comment today was so appropriate as my husband and I are being attacked on all sides with financial concerns right now, and I feel very discouraged. Good to remember I have Someone who fights my battles for me!

  24. I am here and still LOVING this experience! I am behind, but today is my catch up day! I’ve been really enjoying hearing what everyone else is getting out of the readings. Some of the days are REALLY tough to get through, when it’s all names and genealogy, but it’s still interesting. It’s also neat to know that Jesus didn’t come from a long line of perfect people or Royals… he came from concubines and adulterers and sinners.

  25. I am trudging along. I got a lot farther last night. I am trying to read two days for every day right now and should be caught up soon. Last week was a week of the stomach flu (including myself) and I gave myself permission to slow down again.
What is interesting about that – is that it was only a small slide away from giving myself permission to quit. It is amazing what a slippery slope it can be. But I would not go there and got two days worth of reading done.

I also gave myself permission to hold off on the SOAP until I am caught up. I am still underlining the verses I would like to reflect on; however, I am not worried about blogging for now.

    I will not give up.

  26. Well I’ve had sick kiddos and have gotten behind, not only in this but house work and school work too. But everyone is better now so looking forward to trying to catch up. For a first time thru I’m really enjoying this online method where I can get used to the pace and challenge and journal my own thoughts and interactions but I think next time thru I would enjoy some face to face discussion and accountability. Thanks for doing this!

  27. Checking in. I’m right on schedule and enjoy reading everyday.

Amy, I’m very thankful you initiated blogging B90 days challenge – thus opening this not only in U.S., not only in the church, or to your friends but also to everyone that the Holy Spirit may lead to your blog and to other bloggers.

No worry about weekly face-to-face fellowship and accountability, you are providing that almost-daily to this blog and the rest (and the most important things) were provided by the power of God’s word itself and the Holy Spirit.

  28. ps my blog entry for reading is on a old blog I dusted off just for this challenge http://myjourneythroughthebible.wordpress.com/2010/02/01/reading-the-bible-in-90-days-first-32-days/

  29. I am so excited by the changes in me as I keep up.

I am longing to be in his word each day. I am back attending church.

I had been looking and worshiping God in other ways and that has changed. I no longer this Islam or any other religion has the answers. I see that we can find them all right here.

They are here for us and his word is as real now as it was then.

  30. It’s hard to believe that we now have one month down. It’s not always easy to get the reading done, and some of the reading is less than interesting to read. Never the less, I am glad that I’m doing this challenge. It’s giving me a different perspective than when I’ve read the Bible through at a slower pace.

  31. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m just not a schedule-follower when it comes to Bible study, and thus this schedule is difficult for me. I am more of a meditative reader then a rushing-through reader. I’m also more of a subject studier then a one-book-after-another studier. However, I’m keeping up and looking forward to the more poetic books. I can see that this schedule might be helpful to someone who hasn’t read the Bible before or didn’t grow up hearing all the Bible stories.
