Bible in 90 Days Day 15/ Week 3 Check-in

So, my dear Bible in 90 Days readers, how is it coming now that we are launching into week 3? I hope you are doing well and I can’t wait to read about your progress. I pray for each of you as I respond to your comments and I love that time.

From experience in hosting this online and in person, I would guess that for some of you, the reading has formed into a great habit and for others it is getting tougher and tougher to fit everything into your schedule that you would like to. If you are having trouble, think of what can be set aside until October. How you can re-work your schedule to meet your priorities? I wrote this post about getting frustrated and keeping up during our last online read. Swing by and give it a read if you think you need a little push.

For those of you finding it easier, what have you moved or given up to spend more time with God?

If you are up to date, you should have read through page 180 in the Bible in 90 Days Bible or to Deuteronomy 34:12.

At the end of this post I will invite to share your progress with us. Please leave a comment letting us know where you are in the reading, whether you are caught up, racing to catch up or even feeling a bit frustrated. For more on check-in posts, please see this post. Bloggers, you are invited to share your progress with a comment or a link to your own blog post in the linky.

But first we have a few words from Wanda, who has truly embraced this challenge for quite some time. But I’ll let her tell you all about that…

My name is Wanda Shepherd, I live in northern Alberta, Canada, and I was pretty excited when Amy asked me to guest post on Mom’s Toolbox!  Thanks, Amy!  I have been a huge fan of reading the Bible from cover-to-cover ever since I became a follower of Jesus Christ in 1981.  I am currently on my 46th reading, and am finding that participating in the Bible in 90 Days Challenge has significantly enhanced my reading experience.  A community adventure is always more fun than flying solo!

One of the things that I really like about reading the Bible through time after time — and why I keep on reading this way — is because I like having a working familiarity with Scripture.  When someone mentions a passage, I generally know where it is, because I’ve read it so many times.

I think it’s also helped me develop a more complete and mature theology, because I know what the whole Bible says, instead of just parts of John or Psalms or Proverbs.

Because I’ve read the Bible through so many times, I find that I can quote passages from memory without having deliberately memorized anything.  A terrific by-product of all that reading!

This has always been something that I have been passionate and motivated about, and so I find that reading the Bible is its own reward.  I like finishing my daily reading, and I like completing a cycle.

But the main reason why I love reading the Bible through is because it is God’s revelation.  That revelation is progressive as God reveals more and more about Himself, His ways and His plans.  If God says something in John, you have to know that it’s not something new, it’s built upon what He has said and done before, from Genesis on.

It’s an amazing Book, because He is an amazing God, and I look forward to sharing our great adventure of reading through it together!

Inspired? I sure am!!

You can read more from Wanda at her blog, In Search of Manna.

But before you hop over there, let us know how you are doing! We want to pray for you! If you are participating in the linky, don’t forget to link back to this post in your own post so your readers can read more about the program.

We are attempting to read the bible in 90days during unusual circumstances. We are travelling the country (from Alabama to Alaska) in six weeks with the hope of my husband finding a job on the other side. That said, Internet is sometimes dicey. We are holding steady at five days behind. We have just started our trip and we anticipate having more time. We are not giving up!

  2. Missed check-in last night – got home from work and fell asleep on the couch, then went to bed.

I am 3 days behind as we had a house full of guests over the weekend. I am confident though that I will be caught up before next Monday as this is such a huge blessing for me.

Just have a sec, but I’m up-to-date on reading…haven’t missed a day and can hardly believe we’re going into our 3rd week already – with the Torah behind us!!! WOW!!!

  4. I am a day behind but will hopefully catch up tomorrow. I’ve been so busy I almost forgot to check in today!

I am all caught up on my reading! The life of Moses impacted me so much and I’m sad to see it come to a close, but I’m so excited to see what God still has in store. : )

  6. OUCH! My boys and I are on vacation and I just found time to plug in the computer. I am on Day 12 (so three days behind) and am about to “unplug” and read. I am not posting on my blog as I’d rather do my reading since it’s finally quiet around here! :)

  7. Well… I’m sorry to say that I am a little behind~ Having a pounding headache from Friday night to Monday afternoon will do that to a person. However, I am confident that I will catch up! This has been great so far, and I appreciate the prayers to keep it up! :)
    Blessings~

I haven’t done my reading today yet, but other than that I am on track!

  10. Well, even though I was off to a solid start… I’m now behind! :-(

BUT, it’s because I’m currently on vacation with the family… I’m still reading as I am able… and am still THOROUGHLY enjoying the challenge. I’m not *too* worried just yet about being a little behind but would appreciate any tips that anyone might have on catching back up or on staying focused while away on a trip! ;-)

Oh and I LOVE the “listen while you read” resource. It really keeps me on track, since I have a tendency to skip over “mundane” details. THere have been SO many interesting things that I’ve noted this time through the Scripture because of the listening, that I had previously just skimmed right past!

  11. Wow- I had to get creative today to get my reading in! Got up at 3am to begin an 11 hour drive. Since I can’t read and drive, we all listened to the reading together. So far, I am staying caught up and catching all kinds of things in the reading that I end up pondering all day. You can’t read God’s Word without it changing you somehow.

  12. I’ve made progress in catching up from a bad first week and I am almost there!! I love that I am making this more of a priority!! :) I will catch up!! :)

  13. i am finishing up day 15 tonight!

Read the wrong day so we’re AHEAD! Read through Joshua 13 tonight with mom and younger kids. Teen daughters are a bit ahead of us so we’re all good. Tough to explain to little kids, God’s constant commands to kill, torture and destroy… men, woman, children, animals. He doesn’t SOUND like a loving God right now. Unless you’re Israelite…

I am a bit behind, but I am continuing to read and catch up!

  16. Still haven’t caught up the day I missed last week, but plugging right along. I have found that getting up earlier to read has been best for me, although I am not a morning person. My mind is clear then and it helps to focus. In order to get up earlier, it has meant going to bed earlier! And tonight, I’m already late. So, gotta go. Thanks again for your encouragement.

Trying hard to hang in there, I’m a day behind.

well, I haven’t finished my reading for today…I don’t want to fall behind! NOOOOOOOO! It’s only 5:41 PM. I can still do it after the kids are in bed, if I don’t fall asleep! Organizing for the packers to come next week. We’re heading to Utah in a month! :)

  19. I am way behind but plugging along. I probably needed the Bible in 365 days! I can see the beginnings of traditions and wish I had a map of the Biblical lands.

  21. I’m 2 days behind. Yesterday I was 4 days behind so I’ve made a little progress. I think I can get caught up over the next couple days though.

  22. A little bit behind – finishing up yesterday’s reading right now, then will move on to today’s. Fell almost 3 days behind early last week, so I feel almost caught up, now by comparison! I’m really enjoying Deut – it is like a summary of the last 2 books and a good refresher course!
I’m taking my Bible everywhere and reading in every spare second I find – this helps tons!

I am half way through day 14. So only 1 1/2 days behind. Will hopefully catch up tomorrow.

I just have a couple chapters left for today’s reading – I’ve been staying on top of this week which is a real victory for me as we had family up visiting and I was worried I would let it fall by the wayside, but by the grace of God I made use of little pockets of time during the day and kept on track. Getting the big picture view over such a short period of time is really amazing – we’ve gone from creation to the Israelites entering the Promised Land in two weeks! There’s just so much there, I sometimes want to slow way down to really ‘chew’ on things, but I know that this time through is not meant for in-depth study; that will come in time.

I’m a little worried about Psalms coming up in a few weeks…I’m really enjoying the ‘story’ and hope I won’t feel disconnected when we get to the Psalms!

  25. I’m on track, and really feeling for those who have fallen behind. Please don’t give up. Keep pressing on, and you will win the prize — you’ll have read through the whole Bible in the end, and deepened your relationship with its Magnificent Author.
