Bible Reading on the go with the Crossway ESV Bible App

ESV Bible App

I travel quite a bit for work and play. Since we started Proverbs this month, I’ve already been on two trips, with another set for tomorrow.

To keep myself up to date in my reading, I most often read my daily devotional reading on my phone with the Crossway ESV Bible from the App Store.

It’s a free app for iOS, and it is super easy to navigate and read. I can even copy and paste passages out of the app into other docs to help me share them here on MomsToolbox or in other docs for reflection or memorization.

It is also the app and Bible I use most often in church– it’s so easy to get right to a passage and read before and after it to gain context.

Sure, I have tons of print Bibles, but this is my go to for daily reading and also church reading and, since it is on my phone, it is almost always with me, which makes it super easy to never let a day go by without reading the day’s passage. I’ll admit there have been mornings that I started scrolling through Facebook, remembered that I hadn’t spent time in the Word, and hopped right into my Bible reading.

Since I made my commitment to get back into the Word daily, I have not missed a day. I owe part of that to the constant reminder and convenience of this app in my purse, pocket and hand.

I know some people don’t like the idea of Bible reading on an electronic device. At church I wonder if people are wondering if I am texting instead of taking notes and reading along with the teacher.

For me, this has been a wonderful solution and a perfect evolution of new ways to read His Word.

I’m thankful the scriptures moved away from just being hand-written onto scrolls and became published in books. This opened up the opportunity for so many to ready and study on their own. And now I’m thankful for this electronic delivery of His Word that is with me everywhere.

What do you think?

How do you read His Word? And how do you feel about electronic delivery and reading of the Bible? I’d love to know your thoughts and opinions. Please leave a comment about your thoughts in this post.

PS: Today we are on Proverbs 8, if you are reading with me. Verse 17 really got me:

I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.

-Proverbs 8:17

Using this app helps me to seek wisdom diligently, by seeking it daily, no matter where I am.

What grabbed you? And how did you read His Word today? Tell me about it in the comments and lets compare notes. :)
