Blasting away Boredom with a calendar

Third in the Blast Away Boredom summer-long series on MomsToolbox.com.

Check back every Monday through Thursday for ideas to have more fun all summer long.

Need more ideas? Try this one to get you set for anytime boredom sets in…

On with today’s idea…

A Big Calendar

This summer I created large calendar pages just for the kids and plotted all of our planned activities so they could see what we would be doing this summer.

I posted each month in a place they could see them and also posted a sheet of ideas to plan next to the calendars. As we come up with new things to do, I (or they) write the ideas on the list and then I plug them into the calendar where they might work when I can.

This helps the kids to know what is coming up so they can get excited about things and also helps them set their expectations of what is to come. By posting the idea sheet, it helps them get involved in the decision-making, too.

  1. good idea.

of course when I was a kid, if we ever dared to complain of boredom, we immediately got assigned extra chores. No child really wants to wash baseboards. It won’t kill them, but it will keep them from complaining of boredom ever again.

    ;-)
