Blogging Through the Gospels: God knew Jesus’ story would be hard to believe

The reading for Friday is John 20.

Here is what I heard:

Scripture:

John 20: 31

But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Observation:

These accounts are in the Bible so that we may hear them, believe them and have the gift of eternal life.

Application:

God understands that the whole concept of Jesus dying for our sins and being resurrected can be confusing. These accounts of Jesus are recorded in the Bible so that we can have a better grasp of them and of Him and so that we can accept His gift of eternal life.

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for understanding every bit about me and also everyone else and understanding how extraordinary and unbelievable the accounts of Jesus’ life are. You knew we’d have trouble grasping this, and so you inspired writings about your Son so that we could see the truth and understand it better.

Thank you for sharing these accounts of Jesus’ life. Thank you for showing us the truth and helping us to accept and believe.

Thank you for your love and patience as we each put the pieces together.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading?

  1. I think you can politely stand your gurnod, Anonymous, without having to “circle the wagons.” There are good and bad Mormons, just like any other group. The best advice I would give you is to try to befriend them yourself – find out who really wants to be friends, and who is just looking for conversions. Those who care about loving and serving others more than conversions are the good kind. It IS possible to reach across the religious divide. You can be upfront with telling the Mormons that you would NOT like them to share their beliefs, but that you would welcome a friendship.

I cannot see with my own eyes the nail prints in His hands. But I can choose to believe the testimony of those who did. I can read His word and trust that it is true. I can believe–and I will be blessed!
