Blogging Through the Gospels: Accept what God gives you

Guest SOAP post from Stef.

The reading for Monday is John Chapter 9.

Scripture:

John 9

Observation
:

Right off we’re told Jesus is among his people – He is accessible. A man born blind from birth is the topic of debate as far as who sinned to have this “curse” of blindness.  Jesus shares no one, its for God’s glory and Jesus uses mud and spit to heal blindness.  “Neighbors” who know the blind man immediately discredit the miracle could happen to him  – vs 9 “he only looks like that man.” How quickly we judge who is rightful to deserve healing! (Why do we think Jesus doesn’t want to heal everyone? As if Jesus only came for the pretty, clean, and smart?)   Everyone gets hung up on the “how” Jesus healed him.  We want to know the how behind God and in that step by step digestible process we eagerly crave to understand … we instantly lose child like faith.

Application:

I need to accept what God gives me – like this man was born blind. vs 3 “this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” How often I complain about my situation and want to be immediately removed from it.  To easier, happier, something nicer “God get me out of this” safety zone.  Selfishly I’d avoid pain to be comfortable rather than God be glorified and others come to salvation.

Prayer:

Father, forgive me for not accepting your plans with an eager heart.  Forgive me for ever getting caught up in the how’s of your way.  Thank you for wanting to use everything to show your majesty – that nothing you give is by accident.  Help me to be more willing and obedient with your plans rather than cynical and uncomfortable.  Fill my heart with child-like faith to remain in awe of You! Amen

The situation may indeed be impossible. But not for God.

Stef– beautiful observations. It’s so true. In our quest for knowledge and understanding, we do lose our childlike faith. My almost five year old son knows that Jesus is more important than anything… even though he can’t put the why into words yet. Without prompting, anyway. :)
