Blogging Through the Gospels: Luke Chapter 11

Are you a gatherer for the Lord or a scatterer?

The reading for Sunday is Luke Chapter 11.

Scripture: Luke 11:23
“He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me, scatters.

Observation:
Those who aren’t working with the Lord are working against him. There is no middle ground. You are either on the team and helping it, or you aren’t.

Application:
For many years I thought of myself as a follower of Christ. I prayed. I went to church here and there. I believed that Christ was my Savior.

But, obviously, I didn’t really embrace that fact, or else I would have been really listening, craving time with Him and, yes, even working for him by gathering.

I’m not saying that to be with Him you have to walk up to every person you see and share His word. But, when you truly love something or someone, it shows, and you begin to tell people how you feel, how much you like him, her or the thing, and you grow followers for that person or thing. That is just the way it is.

So, if you love Christ, really love Him, how can you not share His love?

And if you like him, but aren’t sharing, maybe you don’t know Him that well.

If you just like Him, but aren’t gathering, I’d like to challenge you for the next month to read the rest of the Gospels with us. Don’t worry about SOAPing if you don’t want to, just read, listen and pray from today through July 10. I post each day’s reading assignment the night before and each week’s schedule on Sunday evenings.

I know that after spending regular time with Him you will be transformed and you’ll want to share your experiences with Him with others.

I know this because I was once there. Just liking Him, but not letting Him use me. I wasn’t gathering.  But now I am and it really is amazing. (And no, I still don’t just run up to people and start yammering away. Instead He showed me the right way for me to gather… and He will show you, too.

Prayer:

Lord, help this post to find those who like you but aren’t doing much about it. Help my words to stir at least one person, and inspire her or him to give you a try… and then be changed so much for the better. Help her to join your ranks and gather, not scatter. And help her to blown away with how amazing that feels.

So… what about you? Are you a gatherer or a scatterer? Even if you don’t know it, you are one or the other?

I was impressed that we need to trust God more. We may THINK we trust Him, because we know in our minds that He is trustworthy. But it is whether or not we trust Him in our hearts that truly shows whether we trust Him or not….

Thank you for your post, Amy. It gives much to think about!

  2. I was really drawn today to Jesus teaching his disciples how to pray, and Jesus making the point of how we should pray BOLD prayers to Him!!
