Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 17

The reading for Wednesday is Matthew 17.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.) If you have been in the habit of listening for three minutes, set your timer for four minutes today and try to listen for an extra minute.

Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Matthew 17: 20

He replied, “Because you have so little faith.  I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Observation:

You can carry out anything with pure, true faith.

Application:

I want to have pure, true faith. I want to pray with complete confidence. This is tough, though. Pure faith often defies the logic of the world. But pure faith is truth and I want it.

Prayer:

Lord, every time I read this passage, and the many others like it, I think of my own faith and the battles within me of worldly thinking versus God-inspired thinking. Thank you for you constant forgiveness of my mistakes and my questions. Thank you for loving me when I waver and wonder. And thank you for continuing to show me your goodness and beauty.

You will never let me down. I know that. And yet sometimes I let fear take over.

Please continue to guide my heart and my mind as I grow my faith in you and see your path for me.

Guide me to pure faith so that I can do the things you have set aside for me and not question, or be held back by the world’s standards.

I love you, God. You have shown me some pretty amazing things. Thank you. Please don’t let me forget them or attribute them to the wrong sources.

What about you? What did you see and hear in your reading of Matthew 17?

And how do you remind yourself of the amazing things you have seen or experienced from God?

Please share with the rest of us, if you are comfortable doing so. Feel free to leave your thoughts, or a link to post with your thoughts, in the comments. If you do link a post, please include a link in your own post back to this post so your readers can see what others had to say, as well, and potentially join us.

I really tried to find a different verse! That’s why it took me so long. But finally I gave in and realized what He was trying to teach me.

  2. I chose the same verse. But it spoke to me a little bit differently. I have an ongoing struggle with pain in my neck as a result of a car wreck almost 3 years ago. I have assumed that God has been saying “no” to healing. And that could be true. But what if He is waiting for me to believe that He can, desires to, and will heal me? Interesting!

  3. So grateful that God has allowed my mind to be enlightened by the Holy Spirit that I can “understand” His Word!

  4. I chose the same verse as you, Amy! :) Though it took me a slightly different direction. Wonderful to read different thoughts on the same verse.
