Evacuating to Vegas

Now I guess it’s my turn to do the live blog hurricane thing. Well, kind of. My story has an interesting twist.

I live in the warpath of Hurricane Ike. I’m pretty north, though, so we will we likely see strong winds and rain… and there is certainly a good chance for power loss. But we probably won’t see the big stuff.

Well, a friend of mine is getting married in Vegas on Saturday. And I had a ticket to fly out tomorrow morning. Until my husband called me while I was gathering provisions at the grocery store this morning. Here’s a shot of the canned food aisle…

He told me that I should call the airline and change my flight to leave TONIGHT! My awesome, loving, very capable husband pretty much said “I got this one. You go and have fun. And could you buy some Spaghetti Os and beer while you’re at the store?”

Wow. I kinda feel l ike I’m abandoning my family. Except he’s insisting I go. And, really, from where we are I don’t expect much destruction, if any. But there could be power loss.

So I finished buying a few things:

(Okay, all that water wasn’t mine.)

Topped off the gas tank and raced home to pack. I’ve got a wedding to see!

Okay, I did set out the flashlights and pack an overnight bag for the kids incase they decide to flee the heat. And, remember, I did buy my husband some beer. And then there’s all that chicken I froze last week…
