Evacuation update

So, here I am in Las Vegas and I must admit I’m a little worried as to what you must think if me, abandoning my family in Houston to ride out Hurrican Ike. But my husband insisted I go.

And, really, we live pretty far from the coast. There will likely be very strong winds and lots of rain, but we both doubt there will be major destruction near where we live. And I did do some hurricane preparations around the house before I left.

So here I am in Vegas, ready to celebrate my friend’s wedding tomorrow. Until then I’m not so sure just what to do with myself. (I know, tough problem to have.) And, although I have a ticket to fly home Sunday, who knows when I will actually fly home. Or if I’ll even fly to Houston instead of another city and drive in. But I’ll figure all that out after the storm hits.

Back in Houston, the kids are out of school today and my husband’s office is closed. This morning he and Smiling Bull cleared out our backyard, moving everything into the garage. And now they are having a relaxing day, playing games and just being together. My husband is really good at just hanging out and enjoying the kids. I love that about him.

So, as I know what’s going on there, I’ll try to report here. In the meantime, there will be a little more prayer coming from Las Vegas.

  1. Hope you guys don’t get any damage! The winds have been really strong here today, too!
