Journaling through the Bible in 90 days: Day 1

Good morning and hello there, fellow readers (and reader-curious)!

Today is the first day of Journaling through the Bible in 90 days with MomsToolbox and I am so excited for all who are reading with us!

(There will be a lot of posts regarding this for the next 90 days here, but there will also be other posts on life mixed in as I return to blogging… I missed it!!)

I got a very good question from a reader yesterday and thought I should share it in the the event you have the same question:

Q: What version of the Bible in 90 days will we be using? I saw a few different plans in the Bible App.
A: You are welcome to use any version you like. I will be reading an NIV thinline, as it has fewer footnotes, is a reliable translation and is easy to read.
I will post the reading plan for the upcoming week each Sunday on Momstoolbox. The plan mostly follows the Bible in 90 Days ministry plan, but with a few modifications. I suggest you select a Bible that works for you and refer to the blog each Sunday for the reading plan.
So glad you’re reading with us!

If any of you have other questions, please drop me a note and I’ll do what I can to help.

Today’s Reading: Genesis 1- 16

A LOT happened in these 16 chapters. We read about the creation of earth and its inhabitants, the flood, a promise to Abram and how he and Sarai responded to it, among so many other things.

Here’s what I heard using the SOAP method of journaling:

Watch out for distractions and deception

Scripture: Genesis 3:13

Then the Lord God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”

Observation:

The serpent was super crafty in deceiving her and inspiring her to act against the instruction of God. The serpent definitely got her off track.

Application:

Satan is crafty and clever. Eve didn’t get a big obvious sign that she was being led astray. She was led with something that appeared to be good.

Where am I being distracted and deceived and inspired to act in ways that take away from God’s instruction for my life? I need to be aware.

Prayer:

Father God,

Help me to see where I am being deceived and led down paths to make decisions I should not be making. Help me to discern the Holy Spirit’s leading versus crafty distractions.

I want to honor YOU in my thoughts and actions and not waste time, effort and energy on distractions.

You are all-knowing. I trust you. Please guide me in following you and identifying and turning away from deception and distraction.

I love you, Lord. In Jesus, name,

Amen

What did you hear today?

I’d love to learn what you heard or learned in the reading today. If you are comfortable sharing, please leave a note in the comments letting us know.

SOOOOO pumped for all who are reading with us!
