Launching into a new Bible Study: Exodus

bible-study-post

Hi, friends.

It has been quite awhile since I’ve blogged a Bible study and I think I am ready to jump into one with you.

This one is going to be different, though.

Yes, I’ll use the SOAP devotional acrostic, but I am not setting up a definite reading schedule in advance. I realize that makes it very hard for anyone to read alongside me, but this is just how it has to be this time.I am going to be making my way through Exodus, most likely one chapter at a time, posting what I hear and what is moving me. I’ll try to post every other day or every few days, but I am not willing to set a rigid schedule and stick with it this time as I have done with Bible in 90 Days or any of my other Bible studies.

You are welcome to jump in and join me by also reading Exodus and sharing your thoughts, or, of course you can just share your own thoughts about what I’ve shared anytime. Please remember, as always, that I am not a Bible scholar. I’m a regular girl who loves the Lord and brings my own experiences to the table, but has not studied the Bible at great length. I have read it cover to cover several times, and I have tried my best to listen to God each time, but I am not a scholar or expert. So there will be places that I’ll lack in-depth insight and my thoughts will be exactly that: MY thoughts as I listen and grow.

With that being said, I hope we enjoy this read together and also independently.

Here goes with my SOAP of Exodus chapter 1:

Scripture:

Exodus 1:17

The midwives, however, feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do; they let the boys live.

Exodus 1:19

The midwives answered Pharaoh, “Hebrew women are not like Egyptian women; they are vigorous and give birth before the midwives arrive.”

Observation:

The midways recognized the king’s edict as evil and against God’s wishes, so they refused to carry it out.

Those ladies were BRAVE! Here they were, told to kill babies by the king, and they refused. They likely could have been put to death themselves for not following orders! And later in the chapter, when they are called on it, they don’t fight back and get sassy, they just offer the king an explanation to cover themselves and the babies.

Yes, we are to be respectful to those who rule over us, but we are also to listen to God and do what is right. We are called to reach out to Him and ask HIS direction and guidance and follow it, even when instructed otherwise.

Application:

In order to know what to do in every situation, it is critical to have a direct line with our Father. I don’t think I’m going to get super clear instructions every single time, but having that line of communication open and seeking His guidance and then listening to Him is certainly going to help me see what next steps to take.

As I do make a point to seek and listen, I’ll only get better at discerning what is from Him and what is not so I will know my next steps.

Pray:

Lord, I need you. I need your vision and guidance in the little things and the big. Thank you for this reminder to seek YOU and listen always. Please help me to be a better listener and also please give me the strength to put into action what I hear from You. You have presented me with a great group of advisors. Help me to see through each of them what you want me to see and follow. Thank you of your love and guidance. Thank you for being there always if I just listen.

I need to learn to be brave like those women. Living in the world as it is today, we all need to be on our feet with those lamps burning. Thanks for the great post!!
