Keep bearing fruit. Luke 3

Today’s reading for Luke is Luke 3. Here is what I heard in the reading:

Scripture: Luke 3: 8

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

Observation:

Do good things and help others as you follow the Lord. Don’t just rest on your salvation.

I realize this isn’t exactly what is being said, but that is what I hear God saying to me in this passage.

Application:

I cannot just sit still and rest on my salvation or what I have already done.

I need to continue to work for God, listening to His guidance and serving as He leads.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you so much for allowing me to be used by you. Please, God, guide me in seeing what you would have me to do and continue serving, rather than resting on what has already been done. I want to serve you and not grow lazy. I want to continue to produce fruit for you as long as you will guide me.

What about you?

Are you bearing fruit for his kingdom? (Serving as a mom offers lots of opportunities right under your own roof with your children!)

What grabbed you in today’s reading?

Tomorrow we will read Luke 4.

  1. S: v3 – repentance for forgiveness. O: The repentance came before the the forgiveness. A: Is my attitude repentant, or am I just asking for forgiveness so I can sweep my sin under the rug? P: O God, so often I want your forgiveness…but I want to hold on to my sin just a little bit. Please grant me the godly sorrow that leads to repentance- otherwise, it is just the worldly sorrow that leads to death.

I love what you got out of this reading! We picked the same verse and God spoke to us in such different ways – I love that! My home is my mission field and I try to do right by God daily – though sometimes I feel like I don’t know what I’m doing! :)

vs. 9 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.” It is encouragement for me to produce good fruit. :) This goes along with some other things Ive been hearing from God lately. I love it.
