Thank you for joining me on my series, Memories to Share. It is my hope this series will guide you in recording family stories and personal memories to share with loved ones, as well as help you to ask others to collect Memories to Share with you someday.

Week 6’s prompt is:

Have you ever been in a parade? Tell about it. Are there any parades you especially remember attending?

Here’s a little of what I’ll be sharing in my Memories to Share book:

I loved parades as a child and still have fond memories of sitting on my dad’s shoulders watching marching bands, dancers and Santa float by, often also passing out candy. I loved the excitement, glittery costumes and the anticipation of what might be next.

In high school, the week leading up to the Homecoming parade was always filled with late nights of building with chicken wire, tissue paper, cardboard and lots of spray paint… my parents even let us paint my dad’s work trailer red and blue with white stars all over it one year! The floats all the classes, clubs and teams built were always pretty spectacular, so not only was the building part fun, but seeing what everyone else built was a blast, too.

One year in high school I got to be in Walt Disney World’s Very Merry Christmas Day Parade along with the rest of the Lake Brantley High School marching band and color guard. And then, later that same school year, we were invited back to Disney to be the marching band in a parade for a commercial Disney was shooting. Those were both a lot of fun.. and it was a blast to hear from friends when the commercials aired!

OH! And then there was the time we took our kids to Manhattan at Thanksgiving to see the Macy’s Day Parade…

I guess I have a lot of parade memories to share… what about you?

What is your story?

Be sure to share your thoughts and experiences with parades– have you been in any? Why? Which parades have you attended that you especially enjoyed? Why?

Tell about it on this week’s Memories to Share sheet and keep it to share later or share it tonight over dinner. You may also share here in the comments, if you’d like.
