Proverbs in 31 Days: Day 26, Proverbs 26: Stop making the same mistakes

Proverbs in 31 Days with MomsToolbox
If you are reading with me, today we are on Proverbs 26. (Remembering what to read in the Proverbs is as easy as remembering the day’s date when you read them with me.) That being said:

Today’s Reading: Proverbs 26

Using the SOAP devotional method, here’s what I heard this time…

Scripture: Proverbs 26:11

Like a dog that returns to its vomit

is a fool tho repeats his folly.

Observation:

Don’t make the same mistakes over and over again.

Application:

The same actions repeated will bear the same results. If those actions didn’t yield results, they won’t begin to yield results. Rather than continue them, I need to learn from them, modify and move on.

I have a few applications that come to mind for this, but I’d rather not share the specifics.

The message is a strong one, though.

Prayer:

Lord, you know which mistakes I need to stop making. I think I do, too.

Please guide me in moving forward with progress rather than sitting still in frustration. Show me the next path and actions to take. I trust you. Show me the way and I will follow it.

Thank you, Lord, for your guidance.

Thank you for sharing your insight today. This also speaks volumes to me.

S – v4 – Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you yourself will be just like him.

O – When trying to explain something to a fool or someone who just doesn’t want to see the truth, you end up acting like a fool yourself when it falls on deaf ears.

A – Two examples come to mind with this. Some adults at work, who want to blast their opinion to anyone around, yet won’t listen to reason or hear another side of the story. Wasted breath. Also, too many times I try to reason with my children. I end up getting frustrated to the point of anger when they (esp. my youngest) keeps right on doing what I am trying to stop. I am wasting my breath. They aren’t listening.

P – Lord, help me to remember that I must stop a fool with action (that action may be silence) and then teach during the quiet times. Help keep me from sinning with my mouth and angry heart to my girls sin. Help me discipline with love and patience and your wisdom, not mine. Please give me the strength and patience during the high anxious times and the wisdom of your teaching during the quiet times. Amen
