Seeking advice for cycling in the rain

The weather forecast for this weekend doesn’t look so glorious for the MS 150 ride from Houston to Austin. It actually looks quite thunderstorm-y. Yuck

Lightening I will not do, but rain I will.

I’ve got a few ideas for cycling in the rain like brake early and that sort of thing.

I also plan to put my camera and phone in plastic zipper bags.

In Vermont I learned to carry a showercap to put on my helmet in case of rain. (And also use that same shower cap to cover my seat when I’m not on it.)

I’ll also bring a raincoat to wear and a small bungee to use in the event it won’t fit in my jersey pocket when it is time to stow (Because the sun will come out.)

I plan to pack all the things in my overnight bag inside of a large garbage bag incase my bag is the one that gets left out in the rain.

I’ll also pack newspaper to stuff inside of my shoes and absorb the water overnight.

Any other tips for cycling or camping in the rain?

I’m up for all you got!!

I like Donna’s comment. I have no helpful hints except ride wisely!

  2. I’m not so much happy about the rain. I hate rain. Only thing worse that me riding in the rain, is me and 12,999 other people riding with me in the rain.

    Not happy.

    Not happy at all.

Thanks for the tips though; love the shower cap one!
