SOAP: A return to the earnest search

Scripture: Psalm 63:1

O God, you are my God;

I earnestly search for you.

My soul thirsts for you;

my whole body longs for you

in this parched and weary land

where there is no water.

Observation: David really wants God with every fiber of his being. All of him desires God.

Application: Sure, I want God in my life. But this verse convicted me today.

How earnestly am I searching? I sat down this morning and tried to get back in the habit of really listening to God by sitting still and clearing my mind completely of anything else for 10 minutes. Last night it occurred to me that I had stopped that practice and should try to revive it.

Well, my mind started to wander and about an hour later I woke up. Oops.

So I just went outside and tried again. I didn’t hear the voice of God, but I heard the birds of his creation singing and I didn’t fall asleep. I’ll call that progress.

Then I tried again to see what scripture was for me from today’s reading and this one popped out.

“I earnestly search for you.”

I need to get back into searching earnestly. And listening earnestly.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for calling me back last night and reminding me of our listening time. Forgive me for not earnestly searching in awhile. Please meet me in my search and allow me to feel your presence that I know is always here. Thank you, Lord.
