SOAP: Be Kind

Scripture:  Colossians 3:12-13

12Since God chose you to be the holy people whom he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13You must make allowance for each others faults and forgive the person who offends you.

Observation: God chose us to be His and has a request for us: Be kind.

Application: Sometimes I can get a little irritated. I like things to go my way and, as I’m sure you can guess, that is not always the case.

I think this is a reminder to be nice when I have to wait. Be nice when someone doesn’t do something the way I think is best. Be nice when the kids make mistakes that kids will make. Be nice and don’t get frustrated.

And do all this because I am chosen. I am representing the one true God in all my actions. And he sure forgives me for a lot… can’t I forgive those around me and be nice? Always. Or at least a little more today than yesterday and so on…

Guess I shuold try a little harder.

Prayer: Lord, thank you so much for washing all my sins away and loving me just the same. Thanks for not sighing or shooting me a dirty look or saying “nothing!” when I ask if I’ve done something wrong. Thanks for being kind when I disappoint you and kind for being nice as I make mistakes.

Please guide me in extending that to everyone around me… the slower employee, the person who cuts me off, the child who does something wrong, the person who does it differently. Guide me in having more compassion, more kindness, more understanding and a more gentle heart in correcting the children you have trusted to me to parent and nurture. Help me to represent you better, and let your love overflow out of me on to all those around me.

Thank you, Lord.

  1. Love the SOAP today! I usually clam up when someone upsets me. I know that isn’t how God wants me to be though. He has forgiven me so many times and I need to forgive and not let things get to me.
