Scripture: Psalm 51:17
The sacrifice you want is a broken spirit.
A broken and repentant heart, O God,
you will not despise.
Observation: God wants us to see our own brokenness and go to him for forgiveness.
Application: There seems to be a lot of pageantry associated with religion, but what God truly desires is our hearts. He wants us to recognize our sin and truly repent more than any other sacrifice or action.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for wanting the heart of me.
You want a true relationship where I am able to recognize my wrongs and ask you for your grace, which you are willing to give generously.
Thank you for looking at me on the inside, and not just the surface. This, however, comes with great responsibility on my part. I cannot just put on a show. Instead I must really work to continually recognize my sin and the great need for your forgiveness, grace and mercy.
Thank you, Lord, for wanting all of me. And thank you, Lord for wanting true repentance and not for me to just go through the motions of a ritual, but truly seek and embrace your forgiveness.
Thank you for your continual forgiveness of my sin.
