SOAP: I want total reliance

Scripture: Psalm 71:7

My life is an example to many,

because you have been my strength and protection.

Observation: This is a beautiful psalm about complete reliance on the Lord and the peace that comes from that. This verse is something for me to strive toward.

Application: There were so many parts of this psalm that were beautiful to me, and also showed me how I can lean more on God and less on myself.

The psalmist talks about his confidence and strength in God because he has turned to him all of his life.

I would like to be able to sing this psalm in truth. God has given me so much. But I have searched inward for strength in my life much more than I have turned to Jesus.

I attribute my ‘successes’ and positive things to him, yet I haven’t relied on Him as much as I should have.

I am glad to learn more about reliance and dependence on Him now. And I am trying to focus much more on Him than myself as my strength.

Prayer: Lord, Thank you for this beautiful psalm to remind me and give me something to reach for.

Thank you for giving me so much, even as I come and go from you.

I am here to stay now, Lord.

Thank you for your patience with me through my lifetime as I got closer and then wandered.

I want this verse to ring true: I want to be an example to many because my reliance will be undeniable. Thank you for allowing me to continue to rely on you and learn how to completely rely on you.

Although that has been a challenge for me, I appreciate that you are always there waiting and never give up. And I appreciate that you, alone, are the sole source of all I truly need.
