SOAP: He will keep us from harm

SOAP_RING_featured

For the next week or so I am working to memorize and SOAP through Psalm 121. I wanted to acknowledge and thank Him for His guidance, love, and watchfulness. Making my way through this Psalm seemed like a great way to do it.

I am doing things a bit differently and working from end to beginning rather than top to bottom. Care to join in?

Today I’m pondering and praying through Psalm 121:7.

Scripture: Psalm 121:7

The Lord will keep you from all harm–

he will watch over your life;

Observation:

He will protect you from the bad stuff. He knows what is going on.

Application:

This one is a bit of a challenge, but I’m still going to go in and do my best here.

I know that we are living in a broken world and that bad things do happen. So what is meant by this exactly?

I am not sure. I often wonder if what He means is that, when those bad things happen, those things which we see as bad using our perspective on this earth, He will still be there with us, loving us, guiding us as we call out to Him. Perhaps He will comfort us and remind us of His love even in those times and then, perhaps His love and guidance will see us though. I wonder if, once we are spending eternity with Him, our perspective on those times we experienced harm on earth will change.

Prayer:

Lord, I’ll admit I want to gloss over the first part of this because I do not understand why seemingly very bad things happen to your people. But I also understand that all things are not for me to understand. Because of this and in honor of this, I still love you and will embrace that you are always watching and that you love me. Solace and comfort comes in that love and so I will cling to that.

Thank you, Lord, for your love– in the sunshine and the rain, the joyful times and the trying times. Thank you for being there, protecting me from the truly bad stuff, always claiming me as your own.

Thank you also for the hope that one day, perhaps, you will explain this to me, should I really need to know.

I love you, Lord. Thank you for loving me. Even when I don’t understand things.
