SOAP: I need help changing my attitude

Scriptures:

Proverbs 15:13

A happy heart makes the face cheerful,

but heartache crushes the spirit.

and

Proverbs 25: 24

Better to live on a corner of the roof

than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.

Observation: Your attitude can determine your outlook and state of your heart. And what husband wants to live with a wife who is cranky and picks fights?

Application: I am supposed to be praying for my husband’s attitude in this chapter, but perhaps it is mine that needs a bit of adjusting.

I don’t think that I am a negative person, and I certainly do not want to be one who points out all the problems, but just yesterday my husband told me I was. And it wasn’t the first time. And that hurt.

I don’t want to be that way. I don’t think I am that negative. But there must be some grain of truth to his observation.

I’m kind of lost for words this morning about this. However it is what is hitting me, so I guess I need to make my confession and work at changing my heart and moving on.

Prayer: Lord, I don’t want to start out the day feeling frustrated and down. But now I feel that way.

I don’t want to be a nag. I don’t my family to feel as though I nag. I don’t want to have a sour attitude and see all the things that need fixing.

Please, Lord, forgive me when I see the negative and turn my eyes to the blessings. Show me how to correct better, in a more positive way, and how to be a partner that doesn’t discourage, but instead encourages. I thought I was doing an okay job, but I guess not.

Help me to change my attitude and my heart so I can do a better job of being a source of love and encouragement.
