SOAP: Noble character comes from daily study

Scripture:  Acts 17: 11

Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

Observation: It is noted that the Bereans were of more noble character because they received the message with great enthusiasm and then they daily held it up against the Scriptures to see if it was truth. Rather than hear the message and just believe, they inspected it and studied it daily against the Word.

Application: It appears to me here that God is telling us to study his Word daily and also not to take messages at face value, but hold them up to his written truth and see how they matche up.

He doesn’t want us to just accept what we are told, but to really analyze it. He doesn’t just want our hearts to be swayed by nice words… He wants us to compare and be sure what we are hearing is truth. Daily study will enable that to take place.

So how do you start daily study if you don’t know how? Reading the entire Bible without a plan can be quite intimidating, but breaking it off into small pieces using a plan can be a simple way to incorporate daily study into your life.

If you don’t have a plan to follow, there are tons out there. Here’s the one I use, and if you are looking for one, I encourage you to use it, too.

I typically post my observations from this reading schedule almost daily, Monday through Saturday. By doing your own digging and reading you can hear what God is saying to YOU individually and then you could check here to compare what He’s said to me. And if He sent you something different from that same passage, I’d love to hear your observations either in the comments or via a link to your own blog post about it.

To help you get and stay on track, I’d love to send you a bookmark with this quarter’s reading schedule on it. Just send me an email by clicking on the “Got Questions?” button in the top left with your address and I’ll pop one in the mail to you. And once this quarter ends, drop me another note and I’ll send the next bookmark to you, as well.

If you’ve sent an email recently and I haven’t responded back to you, I am very sorry… I have a had a few computer glitches and some emails got lost. Please drop me another note if you haven’t heard back. I am very sorry for the confusion.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving me your Word to read daily and to see your love and your intent for my life. Thank you for allowing me to share it with others.

Please guide those who are struggling with the ability to find guidance in your Word daily. Show them a schedule and enable them to see what a difference a few moments each day can make.

Let us all hear your truth, so we may also be of noble character.

And thank you for this challenge to read your Word and examine it daily.
