SOAP: Training for the present life and the life to come

Scripture: 1 Timothy 4:7-8

7Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

Observation: Train your heart and mind in the Word of the Lord rather than relying on myths and legends which hold little truth. In the long run, it is God’s Word which will benefit you.

Application: How can you know what is an old wives’ tale and what is the truth if you do not spend time for yourself in the Word, reading and studying it?

And how can you be sure what you read, even in analysis of the scripture, is accurate and trustworthy if you don’t read the Word yourself.

Don’t you owe it to yourself to spend some time building up your spiritual muscles by actually reading the Bible?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for bringing Ted Cooper and the Bible in 90 Days program to me. By reading your true Word, I can hold other tales up to it and see what is truth. By familiarizing myself with your Word and reading all of it, it is easy for me to go back and look up things when I have questions. And because I read your Word, when I hear a supposed piece of wisdom that supposedly came from the Bible, I can better dismiss it if it is in fact simply an old wives’ tale.

Please, Lord, help more people see that they, too, need to read your entire Word. And embolden them to do so.

Guide me as I develop my plan to follow your plan in inviting readers of many blogs to join me in an online reading community January 1- March 31 so we will all know your true Word and will be better off in our present lives, and the life to come.

And thank you, Lord, for the gift of the Holy Bible that I can access at any time.

  1. Too true too true…

I’ve heard people say tht they “aren’t experts” of His word, or they think it’s in it or it’s not in it, but yet, they never take the time to actually read His word to see what our Father in Heaven really has to say and instead live their lives from a worldy view and interpreting the Bible from that point of view.

I like how Timothy talks about “physical training” and it reminded me about exercising…there is a right way to do it and a wrong way and it’s not “up to how we decide”.

We take the time to find out how to exercise the correct way to get the best benefit from it, so we are not injured in the process and to achieve our goals and the same should be about learning more from His Word.

    Deuteronomy 4:2 (NKJV)
You shall not add to the word which I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.
