True prosperity

Scripture: Psalm 1:1-3

1Blessed it the man

Who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked

or stand in the way of sinners

or sit in the seat of mockers.

2But his delight is in the law of the Lord,

and on his law he meditates day and night.

3He is like a tree planted by streams of water,

which yields fruit in season

and whose leaf does not wither.

Whatever he does prospers.

Observation:  One who walks in the way of righteousness, or one who follows the one true God through Jesus Christ, will prosper, grow and bear fruit in the proper seasons.

Application: By meditating on the law, you can find out what true prosperity brings. It is not worldly success that the psalmist wrote about, but true prosperity.  I think it is also important to note that this tree bears fruit in season. I cannot expect to ‘bear fruit’ all the time. God will determine my seasons and will enable me to bear fruit, provided I keep my focus on him.

Prayer: Thank you, Lord for the promise of prosperity… and for this reminder that I can only find true prosperity through you. Meditating on your law will release me from the pressure to measure up to worldly standards, as your standards are much more important and are eternal. Guide my heart in recognizing true prosperity and the path to that. And when I get frustrated, please gently remind me that I will bear fruit in the seasons you have selected for me, provided I follow you. Thank you, Lord, for this promise and for your word which is so readily available to me.

  1. Hello. I’m new to your blog…and the blogosphere in general. I love this verse and boy can I relate to waiting for the proper season. This world doesn’t want to wait for things anymore. Amen, keep it coming!
