What is your ‘Why?’

Why are you doing what you are doing?

I saw this productivity-boosting question in an email and had to make myself a note to remember it and call it into action.

Sometimes my answer might be serious, and sometimes it may be simply ‘to relax.’ Whatever the answer, defining my ‘Why’ will certainly help keep me on track.

Why do you do what YOU do?  Both the big picture whys and the smaller task whys are equally important. Sometimes you need to cool off and let your mind wander. And sometimes you need to wonder why you are scheduling a dinner, a meeting or answering an email. Is it to advance your goals, whatever those goals my be? Or are you way off track?

Goals of friendship and stress relief are just as important, or even more important at times, as saving the world or hitting a career goal. So please don’t misunderstand me and think I’m all business here.

We do things for a reason. Yes, everything has some sort of purpose behind it. I’m hoping this note reminds me of that and helps me to stay closer to what I know I should be pursuing.

So… What about you? What are your ‘Whys?’ How do you remember them?
