Baked Potatoes in the Crockpot— YUM

Photobucket

My relationship with my slow cooker (eh-hem, slow cooker collection) has not always been rosy. And I must admit there is still some trial and error going on in the 144 household.

But I’m getting better!

At Christmastime I was trying to figure out how to optimize my cooking options and still serve a delicious meal.

That’s when I decided to put two slow-cookers into action: one for baking potatoes and one for sweet potatoes. And they turned out perfectly!

How to: Slow Cooker Baked Potatoes

1. Scrub and prick your potatoes (baking or sweet)

2. Wrap them in foil.

3. Bake in the slow cooker on low for eight hours.

Following this, I ended up with the best potatoes I think I have ever served in my house… Much better than the microwave and I think even better than the oven.

If you try this at  home, do NOT add any water… just use the potatoes, and foil, after scrubbing and pricking.

For the best results, use a slow cooker which will be completely filled up by the potatoes. For just 3 potatoes I use my mini, but for more, I load ’em up in the big guy.

The clean-up is simple and the preparation super-easy, too.

For something a bit messier, click on over to read about my several-day apple butter adventure.

What a crazy mess that was!!!

So… I’m curious, what have you used your crockpot to make? Please let us know in the comments…

  1. My husband recently requested baked potatoes but by the time I get out of work it just takes too long to bake them! This is such a great idea! I will be trying this out this week!

  5. I’ve made apple butter in the crockpot and it was really good! I’ve also cooked beans a few times. I second the suggestion of Crockpot 365! I have a few of the blog recipes bookmarked for future meals.

  7. Baked potatoes! Genius!! When I’m making dinner for a crowd, it’s the baked taters that always throw me off…start ’em early, but then have to reheat…or microwave, which is fast, but not as good…but not any more!! Crock pot(s) to the rescue! Thanks!

  8. There is a GREAT cook book (From a blog…) out there–I bought it in October because we were looking at swim team practice @ 4:30-6:30 every day for 5 months! I’ve used it 5 nights a week for the past 5 months (and have only had 2 bad days!)
It’s called Make it Fast, Cook it slow, by stephanie O’dea, and her blog is http://www.crockpot365.blogspot.com
The book has been really helpful–because she has a lot of tips about slow cooking that I didn’t know before (and had caused HUGE failures!–like TOO MUCH LIQUID!) Just FYI!

  10. Oh, I think you just made my summer! It gets too hot to turn on the oven, but I can still have baked potatoes from the crockpot? Count me in!

  11. This idea is great! I’m going to put this on my March menu!

Mh current favorite crockpot recipe is my mother-in-law’s Swiss steak. She makes hers in the microwave (it’s from an ancient microwave cooking cookbook). But I don’t usually cook in the microwave. So I tried it in the slow cooker and voilà! It was great!

  12. I never even thought of putting a baked potato in a crock-pot. Genius!

  13. That is a great idea. I wonder if the foil is really necessary? I’m so lazy LOL! Hubby wants twice baked potatoes, so I’m trying it this week.

  14. Wow what a great idea! I will have to try this out especially during the summer. I hate heating up the house so bad that I avoid baked potatoes, but I love them!!

  15. Thats a really great idea! I do mine in the oven. I drizzle them with olive oil and sprinkle them with salt, garlic powder and pepper. But I could easily do that in the crock pot too. :)
