Blogging Through the Gospels: Matthew 21: 28-46

The reading for Monday is Matthew 21:28-46.

When it is time to read, please start first by praying and thanking God for His many blessings. Be specific.

Next present your requests to Him. Ask Him for whatever you want and need.

Third, ask Him to guide you in your reading, so that you will hear his message for you today.

After you read, record your SOAP observations and then listen for three minutes. Set a timer and just  listen to what he might be sharing. Don’t ask. Don’t thank. Just listen. (You can pray more after you listen, if you like.)

Today Amy G, who is also a Bible in 90 Days graduate, is sharing he SOAP post with us.

Here is what Amy heard in the reading:

Scripture: Matthew 21:29-30
29 “‘I will not,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and
went.

30 “Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing.
He answered, ‘I will, sir,’ but he did not go.

Observation:
Kids haven’t changed! No, make that people haven’t changed. Kids get a
bad rap for disobeying, but adults aren’t always much better. People
don’t always say what they mean. People don’t always do what they say
they will.

Application:

Words are important. Truth, honesty, and integrity are all part of our
character. I want my character to represent God and his love for
people. It is important to say what I mean, and even more important
for my actions to match my words.

Prayer:

Dear Lord,
Thank you for giving me a mind of my own. Thank you for giving me
freedom to make my own decisions and choices. Help me to use that
freedom wisely. Help me to take responsibility seriously and to only
commit to those things I intend to follow through on. Thank you for
your willingness to let me correct my actions when I first make a poor
decision. Thank you for your mercy and grace.

Amen.

  1. Matthew 21:43

In this verse, Jesus was talking to the religious leaders of the Jews. Applying it to my life today is a little bit tricky but I believe that there is a broader application.

The USA has been abundantly blessed and protected by God because we have, historically, been a nation that sought to follow and honor Him. Plus we have been a friend of His children (Israel). Those facts are becoming less true as time goes on and unless the Lord returns soon … I believe that His blessing and protection will be taken away from our nation!

As individual believers in Christ we are granted great blessings here on earth in addition to eternal life. That eternal life is guaranteed and it cannot be taken from us. We will always be the sons and daughters of God. But when we willfully step out from under His protection, He allows us to reap temporal/earthly consequences. And some, who refuse to give Him the honor that is His due, may have their very lives taken from them lest they tarnish the reputation of Christ.

  2. Good Morning Ladies,
I am trying to start my week off with early posts, since when I put it off they don’t get done. Thank you for all of your verses and everything I learn from each of you every day!

The same verses stood out to me–“I won’t!” That is what the first son said to the father, and unfortunately, too often it is what we are saying to Jesus today. But I do find hope in the fact that our hearts can change.

What God is revealing to me probably isn’t profound or even relevant to anyone else, but wow is he speaking right to my heart. <3

  5. Do we kill Jesus? That’s the question I thought about in my blog post today…
