How do you teach your child to protect her or himself?
This is a tough topic, but after watching this video of a 7 year-old girl who escaped an attempted abduction in an Georgia Wal-Mart earlier this week, I am reminded that evil is, in fact, lurking.
Yes, we need to prepare our children for spiritual warfare, but we also need to prepare them for the possibility of physical attacks.
Several years ago my pediatrician suggested I read Protecting the Gift by Gavin de Becker. (That is not an affiliate link.) I will warn you: It was an alarming book to read that disturbed me. But it also gave me ways to fight back and prepare my children. And I think I need to read through it again as my children are getting older.
I don’t mean to be an alarmist, but we need to prepare our children for many things and, unfortunately, this is another of those.
What are some of the ways you have protected and prepared your children?
What resources have you used to help you?
Have you talked with them about the possibility of attack?
