Gaining Peace. Romans 8:1-17

How is your reading of Romans coming? I have found it to be quite powerful!I have really enjoyed reading it at this pace and SOAPing my way through. I hope you have, too. Here’s what struck me today:

Scripture: Romans 8: 5-6

5Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.

Observation:

If you live focusing on the binds of nature and the law, then you will ruled by sin. However, focusing on the Spirit and allowing THAT to lead will bring peace and life, not death, frustration and destruction.

Application:

Living a peaceful, Spirit-focused life is a choice. Yes, I have Christ in my heart. Now it is time to listen to Him more, and do as He directs. As I get better at focusing on Him, my life will become more peaceful as I begin to embrace and live out His teaching and turn away from sin’s hold.

Accepting his grace and my mistakes and moving on, rather than dwelling on them, is one way to move toward that peace.

How else can I move toward Him and implement the life He desires for me?

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for this reminder that I can chose peace or I can chose strife. Choosing you, and living with you in me, listening and letting you guide me, will bring peace.

I want peace. I want the life you have set before me.

Help me, Lord, to focus on you. Show me how when I slip. Help me to think about what you want for me and strive for that. I know that is the better way. I know that brings peace.

What about you?

Do you focus on the law (either for yourself or others) or do you focus on the Spirit?

If you’ve just found me today, feel free to jump into the reading right where we are. You can download the Romans Reading Schedule, print it out and check off as you read.

The wonderful result of our cooperation with the Spirit of God is that He does change our desires. It’s an ongoing transformation that we need to press into with intention every day. Thanks for the great post.
